Our History!

How do we know about this past?  Church members have put together books for BUMC's 100th & 130th anniversary celebrations.  There are photos and old Circuit Riders to pour through.  We have also been busy adding information to this website.  Click here to see what we have so far, but keep watching, information added weekly.

How did we celebrate?

Check out the events below to see some of the events that were sponsored by the 150th anniversary committee.

Our Celebration Began

The year-long celebration began with banners on loan from the Conference.  The UMW Heritage quilt was on display and Chuck Purdham, a son of Brooklyn, preached.

Marty Jones Returned to Brooklyn

We learned from Marty what the essence of Brooklyn is.  Would you like to find out?  Click on the picture of Marty and her family to see what she says.

A Time to Sing

Hymns connect us to generations now gone.  That was certainly true on Sunday, April 18th when we sang many hymns from days gone by and listened to the teachings of a Circuit Rider.  Click on the singers to see pictures from that day.

Dan Johnson Returned to Brooklyn

Dan Johnson and his family were welcomed back to Brooklyn.

A Tribute to Bob Bailey

Reverend Robert Bailey served Brooklyn for 22 years!  His family and the 150th Anniversary Committee held a tribute to Bob Bailey and a meet and eat on August 22nd.

Bruce Erikson Returned To Brooklyn

With open arms Brooklyn welcomed former Pastor Bruce Erikson and his wife Wanda.

Harvest Festival

Just like the "good old days"  Brooklyn celebrated the farmer and the harvest.  A good old fashioned Chicken Dinner was also held.

Mike Dyrdal Returned To Brooklyn

Mike and Kathy returned to Brooklyn to help us celebrate our church community.  As Mike says "You can leave the church, but the church never leaves you!"

Bishop Sally Dyck Visits

Bishop Sally as she likes to be called preached on Sunday, October 17th about "Connecting the Dots".  She stressed the importance of daily Bible reading and spoke of our connection to the Conference and how our gifts are spread throughout the world
