Brooklyn
Church was the site of Dennis' first parish after ordination: the
birth of their 2nd son; Kaye's life threatening illnesses; and his first
venture into the riches of a ministry in and for Christ.
Dennis earned his B.A. at Hamline University and later was honored with
the decree of Doctor of Divinity, was an adjunct professor and
Trustee. While a student at Yale Divinity School, he served as the
New England Field Secretary of the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
After seven years at Brooklyn Church and 18 years at Lake Harriet UMC,
Minneapolis, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and served as pastor
of the First Church of Palo Alto and the San Ramon Valley Church in
Alamo. While there he served as Chair of the Pastor's School for
four years.
Following retirement he served 12 years on the UMC General Board of
Social Concerns; chaired the Mayor's Commission on Human Rights; and
chaired the first State Ecumenical Conference on Race. He has authored
several articles in church publications and co-authored with his wife,
Kaye, two United Methodist church school
curriculums.
