What's happening at Brooklyn?

From the UMCOR site: As the Ebola virus spreads in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, The United Methodist Church continues to be present and respond through West African United Methodist church leaders and regional health boards, denominational health facilities, missionaries, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the church’s humanitarian aid and health unit. Click here to read the entire article and for additional information check here and here. If you wish to contribute to this effort, write a check to BUMC and note on the bottom of the check that it should go to UMCOR International Disaster Response Advance #982450. If you would prefer to donate items rather than money, a list can be found in the office.

Join us in welcoming our new staff! Shira Granote, our new parish nurse started on the June 9th and Henry Dolopei on July 1st as our minister of evangelism. Please look for them and welcome them to Brooklyn!

The Brooklyn Big Band, our 18 piece jazz group, has recorded it's first professional CD at Wild Sound Studios in Minneapolis. The director, Dave Mantini, selected a dozen tunes that display the band's varied repertoire. Check out their page.

This year, Fair Oaks, a preschool through fourth grade school, needs our help!. We took school supplies three different times this past school year. Each time the school supply shelves were almost empty. They need small backpacks, plastic pencil boxes, colors, colored pencils, paper, pencils, facial tissues and other items needed for these grades. You may put your contribution in the Fair Oaks box in the narthex. Please help.

September 7th is Welcome Sunday. Services times return to 8:45, 10:10 and 11:30 AM. Join your friends and new visitors for a continental breakfast between services (hosted by the Men's Club) with music provided by the Brooklyn UMC Big Band. The combined adult choirs will sing “He Never Failed Me Yet” with members of the Praise Band and Big Band. We hope to see you there!

Check out the two new bible studies starting in September on the Adult Learning page!

The Music and Worship Ministries are looking for new people to join our many groups that help create inspirational worship and small group support and fellowship. Give some of your time and talent and get back a more spiritually fulfilled life. God will bless you as you contribute to the life of our church community. Here is a list of opportunities to be of service in the Worship and Music Ministries at BUMC. Check out the Music & Arts and the Worship - Service pages for summaries, times and contact information..

The 2014 Gala is scheduled for Sunday, December 7th. This year our many music and worship groups will be presenting their music and dance. The Silent Auction begins at 2 PM and the concert begins at 3 PM. The work to find items for the silent auction begins now and we need donations such as cabin stays, hotel and restaurant gift cards, retail gift cards, new or like new gift items, antiques, musical instruments, etc. We would also like to invite new members to join the planning committee. WE HAVE FUN and make a big dent in the general fund for the church. For more information on the Gala Committee click here or to volunteer, contact the Gala Committee via email.

BUMC will be hosting a Farmers Market in our parking lot from 2:00PM to 7:00PM on Thursdays until October 16th. Contact Paome at 763-742-5565 for more information. .

Do you have an event that we should know about? Let us know!

Have you ever misplaced your Circuit Rider? Check out the Circuit Rider page! The September  issue is now posted. And while your there, why not tell us that you would rather pick up the Circuit Rider online, rather than having it mailed to your home.

Do you have a joy or concern? Prayer is a powerful tool for expressing your joys and concerns. We have Pastors and Lay people who pray daily. Tell us what you would like us to include in our prayers by clicking on the praying hands.
