Capharnaum is located on the Northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee and is known as the City of Jesus.  Jesus called his first Disciples here (Matthew 4:18-22), taught in the Synagogue (Mark 1:21-28) and also lived in the home of Simon Peter (Mark 1:29-34) when he was in the city.

Parts of the 1st century synagogue (where Jesus would have taught) have been found under the 4th century white synagogue.

A prayer chapel was constructed over the site of the home of Simon Peter and is a peaceful place for prayer and meditation.
