The Church of the Nativity is one of the oldest continuously operating churches in the world.  The church is built over the cave that tradition marks as the birthplace of Jesus.  The current church was built in 565.

The Church of St. Catherine's is built next to the Church of the Nativity and houses the Chapel of the Innocents (Matthew 2:16) and the tomb of St. Jerome who translated the Bible into Latin.
