It was a long drive through the Sinai (which lies in Asia) on the way to Cairo.  Sand was blown across the road in some places.  The most exciting part of the Sinai was seeing a boat in the Suez Canal and driving through the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel that goes under the Suez Canal and connects the Sinai Peninsula with the town of Suez.  Once in Suez, we were officially on the African Continent.

Cairo, the capital of Egypt is the 6th most populous metropolitan area.  Traffic is crazy with no traffic laws to speak of and housing is substandard at best.  Traveling through the city, the ancient and the new all blend together.
