| Qumran was once home to a communal sect of Jews called the
Essenes who were religious scribes. They are believed to be the
writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls which were found in the nearby caves
between 1947-1956. Qumran is located on the Northwest shore of the Dead Sea. |
