Caring Ministries at Brooklyn UMC are important and robust.

Care Team

Volunteers have served as members of the Care Team for many years. Each month they connect with church family members through visits, phone calls, or mail. A monthly group meeting helps provides them an opportunity pray for and share concerns (respecting confidentiality requests) among themselves.

Monthly Care Notes and Devotions

Care Notes is a newssheet geared to our older members, especially those who may not get to church in-person as often as they wish. It is shared during the Gathering and by the Care Team. There is also a devotion created each month that is shared by Care Team as part of their connections. 

The Gathering

Our monthly mid-week worship and social event, held on the third Wednesday at 11 am. Each month there is music, a brief meditation, and communion in the sanctuary. Then the group moves to Fellowship Hall for a prepared lunch, celebrations of birthdays and holidays, and a program. Worship is led by Pastors Shawna Horn and Jonathon Doe, with Joan Carey leading music. Lunch is prepared by Karen Hoffner and an amazing team of helpers. Recent programs have featured various participants responding to “interview questions” as prompts for them to share from their life stories. While geared for those less able to attend Sunday morning worship, it is open to all. Transportation is arranged, to the best of our ability, on request.

Pastor Visits

Both Pastor Shawna Horn and Pastor Jonathan Doe visit with people who are in need of prayer, whether due to hospitalization, health issue, or any reason someone may need/request a personal time of prayer. They also both walk with families in times of need, especially approaching death and planning funerals.
